Miss Avril Blair - Trading as 'The Copper Kettle' Refreshment
Rooms<.
Note: Avril Blair is the sister of Eric (better known as the writer, George Orwell). She runs it with her mother Ida and the Blair family home is conveniently situated next door at No 3 Queen Street. Before the end of the 1930s they will move their home to Montague House at No 36 High Street. The Copper Kettle acquires quite a fashionable reputation locally and becomes a very successful, if short-lived, business, aided, it is said, by the fact that it becomes the weekly venue for Ida's bridge club.
